Suzanne Vetter-M'Caw: From Culture to Conversation
This event is geared towards teachers who wish to write and edit their own materials. We will begin with a familiarisation with the CEFR and ways to ensure the relevant level is selected in each case. We will also briefly review test fundamentals such as reliability and validity.
An important part of item writing is the process of editing in order to ensure that each item tests what it should and is fair to the students. Taking examples from telc materials, we will discuss what makes a “good” or “bad” item and apply this methodology. Participants will learn to appreciate the importance of looking at items from different perspectives and go home with a toolkit to develop their own material independently.
Suzanne Vetter-M’Caw lives near Frankfurt in Germany. After working for an international company for many years, she became a freelance English trainer and examiner in 2004 and now specialises in Business English, teaching regularly in companies. Suzanne has been working as a telc test author since 2008 and is involved in many telc test development projects. She also edits tests, mentors item writers and teaches examiner training courses on behalf of telc.
Cost for ELTAF members and non-members: Free - No fee is payable for this workshop because it is a sponsored event.
