Workshop in co-operation with elc - European Language Competence

With Judith Mader and Rudi Camerer

Teaching Intercultural Competence in English – How do you do it?

14:00 – 17:30 Workshop

Cost for ELTAF members: EUR 5; non-members: EUR 10

Workshop document can be found here (if you are logged on as an ELTAF member).

There is no doubt that language and culture are inextricably connected, but how many language teachers really feel qualified to teach intercultural communicative competence and use knowledge of intercultural theory in language classes? Does knowing about the findings of Hofstede and Trompenaars, being able to define low-context cultures, collectivist societies etc. make language classes more meaningful? We will outline a course we have developed for German chambers of commerce and hand out and work with training material that has proved effective in several training sessions.
